English

Teachers use Storyline Online in their classrooms, and doctors and nurses play Storyline Online in children’s hospitals.

826 Digital champions student writing. By providing engaging, adaptable, standards-based resources—designed to captivate young writers and empower their educators—826 Digital aims to reach students everywhere, whether they are aspiring authors or reluctant writers.

Games And Activities

Funbrain, created for kids in grades Pre-K through 8, offers hundreds of free interactive games, books, videos, and worksheets that help kids develop skills in math, reading, problem-solving, and literacy and topics like addition, fractions, vowel sounds and shapes.

Engage young students and broaden their horizons with reputable, authoritative, age-appropriate digital content that brings them the world in a way they’ve never seen before. National Geographic Kids will take them on amazing adventures in science, nature, culture, archaeology, and space through books, games, videos, and images.

Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 computer science curriculum in the largest school districts in the United States, Code.org also created the annual Hour of Code campaign, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world.

Many teachers have been using Chrome Music Lab as a tool in their classrooms to explore music and its connections to sciencemathart, and more. They’ve been combining it with dance and live instruments. Here’s a collection of some uses we’ve found on Twitter.

Homework Help

Learn to Be is a non-profit bringing free, 1-on-1, online tutoring to students around the nation. Their goal is to help students from K-12 to succeed in school through free, one-on-one tutoring in all subjects including math, science, reading, and English!

Boston Public Library locations offer free after-school homework help and mentorship provided by high-achieving high school students. The Homework Assistance Program (HAP), previously called Homework Help, is open to students in grades K-8. No registration is required. Boston Public Library also provides tools for students as they prepare for the ACT, SAT, and MCAS.

The Homework Center at Framingham Public Library is providing free weekly remote (via Zoom) tutoring and homework help to students K-12. We have over 50 tutors who are proficient in all subjects taught in the Framingham schools, SAT, ACT, subject tests, and college essays in addition to help with college search and more. Our tutors are retired professionals, college and National Honor Society students. To sign up, please contact Judy Gatlin, jgatlin@minlib.net. Framingham Public Library also organizes various activities throughout the year.

Fiveable has focused on supporting Advanced Placement students and teachers for the last two years. Since the exams are still happening online this year but in a modified format, stressed-out students and teachers have been looking for guidance. Fiveable has published study plans for 17 exams to help guide students as they are working through content. The company also has launched additional free live streams during the day, which traditionally only took place in the evenings in order to help students practice the new exam-style questions.

Lesson Plans K-12

NYC Department of Education has put together activities for students K-12 to discover art, world language, computer science, and health and wellness based on their age. There are also worksheets with activities for the core curriculum including topics in social studies, science, English, and math for each grade.

Khan Academy has organized schedules meant to be templates that you could adopt as is or copy and modify to better suit the needs of your children, classroom or district. Khan Academy has self-paced, interactive content–exercises, videos and articles–for students in every grade and in most major subject areas.
